Marquetry sideboard

Design and construction of marquetry sideboard

The design and construction of this sideboard decorated with geometric marquetry was inspired by the Art  Deco movement. This piece of furniture is oval shaped while its sides come into a semicircular form. The marquetry design runs all over it perimetrically in a non stop pattern, building up laser cut geometrical patterns out of several kinds of plywood, so that contrast is created, based on pattern composition and colours. Plywood used:paduk, oak, eucalyptus, and black imbued oak. Its interior is iroko veneer lined. Its peripheral  items, that is, door-knobs, hinges, as well as  details applied on its legs are designed & handcrafted in bronze, as they have been specifically designed serving its aesthetics. The legs have been built out of solid oak, which was primarily imbued in black following a clear geometrical form. Its dimensions are:180cm x 45cm x 60cm (LxWxH). The whole sideboard has been painted in matte acrylics (non yellowing).
