Mid-Century Modern Armchair

Design and construction of a Mid-century modern armchair

The inspiration for this piece of furniture derived from the mid century modern trend. Emphasis has been placed on the ergonomics and comfort of both the seat and back, offering an elegant, yet functional design. The armchairs that represent this trend usually feature a comfortable backrest, upholstered with foam, and a spacious seat that allows the user to relax. Its curves are soft and harmonious, while its corners are clean and geometric. Solid oak was used for its construction. While its cushions, made of leather and memory foam, are entirely hand stitched using the "hand stitching" technique. The finish of the furniture is done with matte varnishes.

The Mid-century modern trend is a design and aesthetic movement, which developed approximately from the 1930s to the 1960s. This trend combined modern design with the classic American lifestyle, creating a unique aesthetic effect that is still popular today. It has been recognized worldwide for its significant influence on interior design, architecture and graphic design. The modern aesthetic, applied in both design and construction, has been harmonized with the modernism that dominated this era. The typical characteristics are distinct lines, organic forms, the use of natural materials such as wood, glass and metal, the harmonious combination of these materials, and the emphasis on both detail and comfort.
