Construction of a bar counter made of plywood with poplar root lining and four stools made of solid Ash. The construction was made according to designs provided by the client. The bar, has a reinforced metal frame covered with wooden elements creating a floating feel on it. It has a semi-circular shape, measuring 170*55*28cm (W*D*H) and consists of three different wooden parts. A vertical semi-circular part made of flexible plywood (ceiba) lined with Poplar root veneer. The specific type of wood was used in order to create the circular form. An interior surface made of untreated MDF, the edge grain of which is painted with golden lacquer and serves as a Shadow line. The main surface is made of marine plywood lined with the same veneer. On this particular surface, a more durable wood with an unglued adhesive was chosen, as this construction will be used outdoors. As for the stools, we reworked the design of a dining chair according to the client's choice. We redesigned and created a stool-chair hybrid, that is spacious and comfortable, with dimensions 50*50*72cm (W*W*H of the seat). They are demanding constructions, since each stool consists of the composition of many different pieces (legs, back - armrests, seat, footrests) and their joining was made with complex joints. Both the bar and the stools were imbued with a paint of the customer's choice of color, resulting in a very special color, which exudes a vintage aesthetic. As for the finish of the bar, it was done with Full Gloss varnishes (100% gloss). The upper surface was finished with floor varnish for extra protection, which also has anti-corrosive properties. This particular varnish was chosen because the structure was placed outdoors where drinks and beverages were served on it. For the vertical surface, an outdoor varnish was used. Both surfaces, after polishing, were subjected to the polishing process. The polishing gave them an even smoother and glossier appearance, improving any imperfections in the finish, and brought out the depth of the veneer. Finally, a ceramic coating was applied, which increases the anti-corrosive properties of the varnishes as well as their durability. The stools were finished with 40% Gloss exterior varnishes in order to maintain consistency in terms of gloss same to the bar's. Several coats of material were applied for extra protection, as these are utilitarian items that will accommodate a lot of people on a daily basis. The structures are currently installed at Cafe-Bar Le Coq, where the photo shoot took place after installation.
